About
Kristin Johnson has more than three decades of experience heading design departments and serving as an award winning designer for major publications, studios and a variety of clients. As a Design Director at Martha Stewart Omnimedia she was responsible for directing a creative team and developing the Martha Stewart catalogs, packaging and product collateral. As a Creative Director at Pinkhaus she directed projects for Mercedes-Benz. She was the Creative Director at launch for Smock magazine and the Design Director of Artforum and I.D. magazines. She served as a Senior Designer at M&Co. and later joined Tibor Kalman as the Design Director at Interview, where they won the ASME National Magazine Award of Excellence. At Terence Conran’s home furnishing store, Kristin was an Art Director responsible for the execution of Conran’s catalogs, in-store promotion and graphic product development. She began her career as a designer at Harper’s Bazaar. Kristin holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design and has completed advanced studies in the accelerated video program at NYU. She returned to Parsons as a faculty member in the late 90s. She executed the Artspace Book series, designing books for such influential artists, photographers and writers as Gregory Crewdson, John de Fazio, Jenny Gage, Nan Goldin, Dave Hickey, A.M. Homes, Heidi Julavits, Justine Kurland, Stefan Kürten, Klaus Kertess, Zoe Leonard, Jim Lewis, Ben Marcus, Rick Moody, Bradford Morrow, Joyce Carol Oates, Izhar Patkin, Jack Pierson, Jonathan Raymond, Rebecca Solnit, Darcey Steinke and the late poet Agha Shahid Ali.
